Arsenal and
Tottenham are interested in signing Dejan Lovren this summer, according to
reports.
The Liverpool
defender has struggled for playing time this season, making just nine Premier
League starts.
He is behind
Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip in the pecking order at Anfield.
Italian outlet
La Lazio Siamo Noi claim Arsenal and Tottenham face competition from Lazio,
Lyon and long-term admirers Milan as they attempt to sign Lovren.
Tottenham look
set to be on the lookout for a centre-half in the summer transfer window, with
Jan Vertonghen likely to leave when his contract expires at the end of the
season.
Meanwhile,
Mikel Arteta could look to bolster his backline with Sokratis Papastathopoulos
and David Luiz failing to impress this term.
Additionally,
Milan are believed to still be keen on the Croatia international after failing
to sign him last summer.
Lovren started
in Liverpool’s 3-0 loss to Watford last month, which ended the club’s chances
of going the entire Premier League season undefeated.
The 30-year-old
was bullied by Troy Deeney as the Watford captain and Ismaila Sarr (2) scored
to inflict a first league defeat on the Reds since January 2019.
Following the
game, Deeney admitted he targeted Lovren at Vicarage Road.
He said:
“[Virgil] van Dijk is a class act and, for me, is probably in the top five
defenders in the world.
“It is tough to
get anything from him – he is 6ft 4ins, fast and strong, so you try to pick on
the weaker of the two.
“I don’t want
to be disrespectful to Lovren and say he is the weaker of the two.
“But I knew he
wanted to fight me as well, and that is my game, so if you want to try and
fight me you are going to have to be in for a tough night.
“He did that
for the first goal, trying to fight me for the throw-in and then I obviously
rolled him and we scored. He is trying to fight me instead of watching the ball
and we scored.”
Lovren has made
184 appearances for Liverpool since joining for £20million from Southampton in
2014.
