Aisha Falode, Chairperson of the Nigeria Women’s League

With a crowded hall of media egg heads at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, it was going to be difficult to say something unpalatable about a public personae on a day the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), decided to announce that it has secured another milestone on how football should be managed at the women’s level. The event between Nasarawa Amazons and Rivers Angels, hold March 4.

Nigeria Football Federation, Vice President, Barr. Sheyi Akinwunmi though came late but heralded that event, eveversent  Chairperson of the Nigeria Women’s League, Aisha Falode, was as usual leading a talk about how a new innovation about two women champions of the Nigeria Women’s League came about, especially as funds has always been an issue.

She gave a little dose of how things went when it was becoming almost unthinkable to do a champions duel among women in a country that is still considered Africa’s foremost Women Football nation.

Now listen to her: “ We had a Sports summit in Lagos and during the break, we all broke into a session and I decided to approach Governor Ambode for support of this event that we want to hold on March 4. He simply told me to go that he was going to do it. I was hesitant and unbelieving”

“I thought, he just wanted to get me out to do his thing as a very busy state executive, but I was shocked when he beats his chest and told his retinue of staff whether he has ever reneged on his promise to people in his previous dealings, all of them said no sir”. I calmed down and that is one of the reasons we are having an event like this today, totally packaged by Governor Ambode.

Falode, also praised the support of Sports Commission Chairman in Lagos, Dr Kwekwu Tandoh, whom she revealed that even after the executive support it still has to take a ‘Big Hand’ like Dr Tandoh to rush things through.
