Prof Ezegwui underscores the relevance of contraception

A professor of of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Hyginus Ezegwui has underscored the importance of contraception as a means of preventing pregnancy.

Ezegwui made this known, Thursday while delivering the 124th Inaugral lecture of the University which held at the Moot court, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.

The professor who spoke on the topic: the Human Drama of Contraception -Adolescence to Andropause /Menopause: The Evidence also said that contraception reduces the rate of mortality and morbidity.

He regretted that some women allow the process of conception to occur after which they decide to go for abortion instead of adopting the contraception method which according to him is safer.

According to him, there are many options in family planning and contraception that couples can pick from such as: Implant, injectables, Oral pills, Permanent and irreversible method, Natural method and the barrier method.

He noted these options will help couples to prevent conception and have a more satisfying sex life while adding that the basket of choices cover both religious and cultural values.

He advised couples to make the right contraception choices, putting into consideration what works for the,m and avoid abortion as much as possible.
