Man, 24, faces trial for disguising as soldier

A 24-year-old man is currently facing trial at the Enugu State Magistrate Court for allegedly parading himself as a soldier.

The suspect, Gabriel Patrick Ogbonnaya was apprehended by one Major Gen. Didigwu at Old Artisan, Ogui road in Enugu.

The Investigating Police Officer, Wilberforce Okwor told the court that the suspect was arrested by Major Gen. Didigwu at Old Artisan Ogui, Enugu, while fully dressed in the army camouflage.

“The accused person was arrested on the 14th day of August, 2017 by military men, at old Artisan, Enugu while fully dressed in army uniform, where he was transferred to Ogui police station,” he said.

The IPO also told the court that he called a photographer who took a photograph of the suspect while he was still fully dressed in the army camouflage. “Before we recovered the exhibit, we called a photographer
who took a shot while the suspect was dressed in the army uniform.”

He also affirmed that at the time of the arrest, the suspect claimed to be a soldier.

The IPO told the court that, he was able to recover items from the suspect, which the prosecutor, Inspector Innocent Egbuaba tendered before the court as exhibits. Among the items presented to the court include, a beret, a cap, a handkerchief, a trouser and shirt. Others are a pair of socks, boots and an I.D card.

The suspect affirmed that the items were recovered from him.

The magistrate, His worship S. O. Okoro adjourned the case to the 25th of September, 2017 for further hearing.
