As the countdown to the
first Super 4 Women’s Championship continues, it has been revealed that the
Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, venue of the event will wear a new look during the
event, to showcase the growth and importance that the Edo State Government
accords to women football.
Chairman of the Nigerian
Professional Women League, Aisha Falode, who spoke on the issue, said she does
not mean renovation of the stadium but putting the stadium in such a shape that
will show that the women football has a new frontier with the support of the
Edo State Government.
She added that Edo FA
Chairman, Frank Ilaboya, has assured that all the teams coming for the tourney
will receive the best of hospitality from the ever warm people of Edo State,
adding that the event is set to redefine women football in the country.
Falode, again seized the
opportunity to heap praises on Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki for offering
to sponsor the Super 4, noting that it shows that apart from the men, Governor
Obaseki and his able deputy, Hon Philip Shuaibu have demonstrated a love that
has never been shown before for women’s football in Nigeria and Africa.
She also said plans by the
Confederation of African Football (CAF),
to start a Women’s League in the continent is commendable and said with the
sagacious leadership of President Ahmad Ahmad and the ever enviable back up of the NFF
President, Melvin Amaju Pinnick, women Football will never be the same again in
Africa. “Women’s football has come to stay not only in Nigeria and we will
drive it”, Falode declared.
