Residents and vendors in the popular Obiagu Street have blamed the Enugu State Waste Management Over
poor waste management in the area.
They made this known when
Newslive reporters visited one of the refuse dump cites in the area to
ascertain the level of waste management.
A newspaper seller, Mrs.
Maurine Onuorah said that the Refuse dump has been a great to her health and
her business adding that the stench from the refuse are provoking.
"The Refuse bins
provided by ESWAMA are filled up and as a result, residents in the area have
turned the ground into refuse bins" she said.
According to Onuorah
ESWAMA has not been active in the discharge of its duties ever since the
present government came into power.
"Under the Sullivan
administration, ESWAMA was always punctual. As soon as the refuse bins are
filled up, they come and clear them" she said".
She therefore advised the
state government to constitute a team of individuals who will always go around
to check recuse dump cites in the state in order to make the environment
conducive.
A resident in the area,
mrs. Nkechi Amaechi said that the stench coming from the waste is capable of
causing sickness.
"If the government
does not have enough people to work, it should employ us so we can help in
keeping the environment clean" she said.
