Athletic Football Club have become one of the first football teams in the
country to use innovative digital technology to share highlights of their
matches to fans.
Featured
on SKY 1’s SOCCER AM programme, the news has already generated over 40,000
impressions on Twitter.
Known
as ‘augmented reality’, fans using a dedicated smart phone app can point to a
photo in the team’s matchday programme and view highlights of the latest match.
Frickley
Athletic board member, Ryan McKnight, said, “This technology is incredibly
powerful and opens up endless possibilities for our fans across the district –
it’s the future!”
Highlights
of the Evostik Division 1 South club’s matches, both home and away are recorded
on camera by a group of enthusiastic and dedicated students from Doncaster
College. The students, who are studying Life Skills, have a range of learning
disabilities.
Lecturer
Chris Medwell said, “My students are incredibly excited to be involved in this
project. They feel part of this new technology and get so much out of it.”
The
use of the technology has attracted a lot of interest including some EFL
Championship teams.
