Sky Sports launches logos, brand new dedicated sports channels


Leading global sports conglomerate, Sky Sports has launched logos and brand new dedicated sports channel.

One of the business partners that have handled printing and installation of graphics at the Sky call centers and head offices is Oasis Graphic Co. which has done the business for over 10 years on behalf of employee experience agency Avvio Reply.

In our time working with Sky we have developed a location bible that details specifications of each of the branding areas and over a decade of working with this high profile client has led us to acquire an acute knowledge of each site’s branding locations, which would come in useful on a job with such complex logistics.

The campaign
The unveiling of the new Sky Sports logo and their brand new dedicated sports channels such as Sky Sports Golf, Sky Sports F1, Sky Sports Football in all of their nationwide head quarters and call centers. 

The extent of the launch
The launch was nationwide over just a few days and therefore it set certain challenges in terms of installation times. Having an in depth knowledge of the locations really worked in Oasis’ favour in order to preempt problems and understand the nuances of each installation site, from Dunfermline in Scotland to Athena Court in London; ten sites in total.

Installation began on Monday 10th July with further installations on Wed 12 July, Fri 14 July and finally Sunday 16 July. Crew sizes ranged from 2 to 4 expert fitters; chosen for their knowledge of the locations, their efficiency and quality.

The graphics
The graphic brief itself presented nothing out of the ordinary, all bread and butter stuff for Oasis. However, it was certainly the lead times and schedules that made this job unique. Whilst the physical components of the project were mostly the same as Oasis has produced for Sky in the past, the size of the campaign meant we needed a clear strategy of priorities. The installation schedule had to be considered carefully and specific treatment of solvent printed elements taken in to account. With all details mapped and timings agreed the project managers worked the details into a feasible schedule that met all of the client’s deadlines.

Graphic elements compromised of:
- UV printed vinyl for application onto the turnstiles
- UV printed 5mm Kapa-Plast (foam core) for the hanging panels
- Optically clear film for the glass windows
- Dye-sublimated black back fabric prints fitted into aluminum frames
- Aqueous printed paper mounted to acrylic on wall spacers
- UV and solvent printed Ultra Removable Vinyl for walls

The result
Whilst this project was for a well-rehearsed client with a relationship between agency, end user and supplier that works effortlessly it was a lesson in not sitting back on our laurels. Had we taken for granted that we know the client well and the graphic production was playing to our strengths we might not have got this launch off the ground without a hitch. Identifying where the true potential pitfalls could be and planning effectively meant we could dedicate our resources to Sky for their dedicated channels launch and do it justice. And we would like to think, we did.
