I will resist any attempt to truncate Nigeria’s civil rule - Bakare

President Muhammadu Buhari

By Toye Faleye

The firebrand and no-holds-barred pastor, Tunde Bakare of Latter Rain Assembly has vowed that he will vehemently resist any attempt by the military to truncate the Nigeria’s civil rule by plotting coup. This was contained in his sermon on Sunday in his church at Akilo road, Ikeja, Lagos.

He said this following the rumour making the rounds that because of the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari who is on medical vacation abroad, the Nigerian military may be used by some overzealous politicians and cabal within the Presidency to take over power so that they might remain relevant in the scheme of things.

It will be recalled that the top echelon of the military just warned recently that the officers of the Nigerian army should now allow themselves to be used by any politicians even as the ICG has just counselled Nigeria that strong private and public message should be sent to both military and regional political leaders against unconstitutional actions, particularly military intervention.

Speaking further Bakare said as it was being peddled in some quarters that he is envious of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osibajo, he could never have nursed any envy against the Vice President that he himself had advised in the past to take up the coveted position. He made reference to himself as a nation builder who is interested in making Nigeria to be a country any citizen can be proud of, saying he is contented in the where position he has found himself.
