Nigeria Supporters’ Club inducts new members

The Nigerian Football Supporters Club and its executive members under able leadership of Vincent Okumagba launched out in a big way at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos during the week when it staged a special nite in recognition of newly-inducted members of the club. Tagged “Stars’ Nite”, the well-attended event which threw the entire stadium into a carnival-like funfare saw new members being decorated and welcomed into the Club.

Graced by long-standing members from the United States, United Kingdom and all corners of the entire country, the event which saw the usual display of musical entertainment and cheerful display by the club members was staged to celebrate a new set of people who share in the ideals and vision of the exalted club.

In his speech at the colourful ceremony, a long-standing member of the club, Elder Ologunye fondly referred to as Double Elder spoke with excitement the genesis of the club’s Stars’ Nite. “The club attaches importance to Stars Nite because it is a carnival-like event in the Supporters’ Club. For anyone who desires to be a member, you need to be recognized and introduced to the entire club, we refer to them as Stars of the Nite. We make them realize they belong to a respected club and we use the event to let them know what we do at the club. Not only that, it’s an opportunity for the new members to bring their friends, relations and associates to share in the fun we share as members if the Supporters Club.

Welcoming the new members, cheers and excitement atmosphere created by the Club’s band set ushered in the National Chairman of the Supporters Club, Prince Vincent Okumagba who stated that in spite of the several challenges faced by the club since the induction of newly-elected members on 10th December 2016, “we are proud to say that we have recorded several achievements. More so, am proud of the resilient executive members who have contributed immensely to take the club to the highest level”.

Noting that though the club still requires adequate funding to be able to carry out and project its numerous activities in promoting Nigeria’s football exertions all over the world, “we have set up committees to pursue the cause in generating avenues to raise funds. I thereby call on corporate organizations and enviable individuals to join hands with the club in attaining the heights we desire”.

Also in his words, Okumagba reiterated that though operations of the club has since commenced in its Abuja office, but took cognizance of the unflinching support of the Ministry of Youths and Sports who he said have recognized his exco and teeming members for conducting itself according to the rules.

He therefore enjoined all to throw their support behind the club and the nation for the Nigeria World Cup and nations’ Cup engagements coming up in Uyo come June 10, 2017. “Although, we have set up committees to pursue sourcing of funds to make June 10 a huge success.”

Okumagba did not however conclude his address without advising those casting aspersions on the Club and his executive members to turn a new leaf. “There is just one Supporters’ Club and one chairman, in the person of Vincent Okumagba who is duly recognized by the Sports Ministry and the nation as a whole. For us, we shall continue to grow from strength to strength.

He therefore enjoined newly inducted members to conduct themselves according to the rules of the club in achieving the aims and aspirations of the Supporters’ Club.

One of the newly inducted members, Ejiro Ofuafo, in her response on behalf of her other colleagues made appreciable comments when she said, “I feel a sense of belonging having been welcome into the big family of supporters club. It is a well-organised setting, very friendly and accommodating; it gives a sense of pride that we belong to this exalted club”.

The ceremony did not end without a dancing session thrown for all the new inductees who took the centre stage to display their dancing skills, amidst an entertaining session by the D.J on stand.

After a thorough review of the session by the men on the high table, the Star Dance of the Night was won by Ejiro Ofuafo who went home with N5,000 Secretary General prize.

The newly inductees members on the Star Night in attendance are Eburo Christian, Busari Olayinka, Rasheed Amidi, Oluwakorede James, Alimi Samsideen, Ofuafo Ejiro, Alli Sunday, Jamiu Tajudeen, Inyi Celestine, Saidi Edunjobi, Ogue Ikheria and Michael Obaze.

Prominent among those present at the well-attended event were National Chairman of the Club, Vincent Okumagba, the Gen. Sec. Oluwakemi Popoola Aina, the Club’s Treasurer, Chief Oladejo M. Akinloye (Babaloja General, Ojokoro), Raji Mohammed and the club’s PRO as anchormen, Hon. Bernard Anyanwu, Elder Folorunsho Ologunye, 1st Chairman of the club, USA, Adeyemi Olawale, Onifade Dele, Bunnet Emmanuel (Kaduna chapter), Alh. Jimoh Ogundele, Tunde Souza, a long-standing member of the Supporters’ Club from the days of ECN, who now resides in Boston, USA and many others.
