The Grand hosting of the
President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Melvin Amaju Pinnick, has been
fast-tracked by a day, as the event scheduled for Saturday, May 20th will now
be held Friday May 19, at the Government House, Benin City. Time remains 6:30pm.
As expected top government
officials from all the six geo-political zone of the South South region of
Nigeria are expected and according to the Chairman, Media Committee of the
region and Edo FA Chairman, Frank Ilaboya, the glizt and glamour of the event
remain intact despite moving the event forward.
He said after a
soul-searching meeting in Benin City on Thursday, Governor Godwin Obaseki,
pleaded that the event should be held on Friday, instead of shifting it forward
again after a huge media excitement over the hosting of the NFF President,
Chairman CAF, Organising Committee, Media Committee and member of the
all-powerful FIFA Organising Committee.
Ilaboya explained that the
shift-forward was occasioned by a host of national events especially the burial
of former Western Region Governor, Late Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo, which will hold
in Ekiti state on Saturday and Edo state will like to be fully represented at
no lesser rate than the state’s Chief Executive.
Dignitaries expected at
the South South Grand Reception for Pinnick have already been informed of the
latest development and most of them have concurred to the detour and have
promised to make the event one to remember, because the future according to all
of them rests with the younger generations of Nigerians.
