Special Adviser on Solid Minerals to Governor Isiaka Ajimobi of Oyo State, Mr Mathew Oyedokun, has raised an alarm over the spate of insecurity on the Ilesa-Akure road, as well as, the Akure-Ondo-Ore road. He says both roads have become the den of kidnappers and armed robbers.

Oyedokun calls on the Inspector General of Police, Governor Rauf Aregbesola of State of Osun and the newly sworn in Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State to swing to action and come to the rescue of travellers on the road.

Oyedokun says the rate of kidnapping and deadly armed robbery attacks in those roads have become so high that many lives and property were lost between February 13 and 17 on the Ilesa-Akure road.

While recounting his experience, he says the general manager of a company was shot at, with his car riddled with bullet while driving in his Prado Jeep along the road as he attempted to manoeuvre his way in order to escape being kidnapped around Erin-Ijesa junction of the road.

Oyedokun narrates that almost at the same time, a senior bank official who left for Akure on an official assignment was not lucky as he died of shock when his driver was shot at on the same road.

“The lifeless body of the banker was found on the third day around an area as he was abandoned by the kidnappers. The driver is still at the intensive care unit of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Ile-Ife, Oyedokun adds.”

Speaking further, he narrates that the following Friday, two businessmen were kidnapped on the road around Joseph Ayo Babalola University, as on Saturday February 25, a veteran journalist and former Managing Director of Daily Times, Dr Adinoyi-Ojo Onukaba, was attacked by armed robbers around Igbara-Oke junction of the road. While Adinoyi-Ojo, who was coming from the 80th birthday of former President Olusegun Obasanjo held in Abeokuta, was trying to escape from the armed robbers, he was hit by another vehicle and died on the spot.
