The curtain finally falls
on the 2016 edition of The SERAS CSR Awards Africa, which holds on 11th
November at Shell Hall, MUSON Centre Onikan at 6pm. The SERAS, which is the
prime platform on the African continent promoting corporate social
responsibility and sustainability, marks it 10th anniversary with this edition.
There are 27 awards
categories to be decided by the distinguished panellists that constitute the
jury. The award categories would be in line with the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals. Some of the dignitaries gracing this year’s awards ceremony
include Lt. Gen. Khama Seretse Ian, Khama, President of The Republic of
Botswana- who is billed to receive the 2016 ‘sustainability champion’ awards
for the leadership role he played in ensuring that Botswana posted one of the
most outstanding results amongst African countries in the millennium
development goals targets that ended on 31st December, 2015.
Also billed to grace the
event is H.E. Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the executive governor of Kano state who
would be showcasing his government’s interventions in SDGs 2 (zero hunger) and
4 (quality education) respectively. The
former governor of Cross River state and presidential aspirant, Mr. Donald Duke
would deliver the keynote address entitled- Innovation and the future of
sustainability in Africa. Others include
Dr. Christopher Kolade (CON), pro-chancellor and chairman governing council of
the Pan-Atlantic University and Senator John Owan Enoh -Chairman, finance
committee of the Nigerian Senate.
To commemorate this
milestone, the organizers of the awards also announced a special category of
awards for the top three participants at The SERAS over the last decade. Their
ratings would be based on their overall position per year as well as total
number of individual categories won over same period under review. These companies would receive for the first
time in the history of the awards a prestigious all-gold statuette designed by
R.S Owens, makers of The OSCARS and Golden Globe awards statuettes.
The SERAS – CSR Awards is
an annual project which aims of promoting as well as raise awareness about the
roles organizations play with emphasis on their responsibility towards stakeholders and the social development of
Nigeria and Africa. The SERAs, Nigeria’s first and premier Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) Awards which now also features participation from
countries around Africa, aims to substantiate the case that corporations who
are socially responsible stand to gain huge benefits in regards to the triple
bottom line - economic, social and environmental capital.
