Former Nigeria and BCC Lions of Gboko midfielder, Moses
Kpakor, has tipped the Super Eagles to defeat Algeria in today' 2018 FIFA World
Cup qualifier in Uyo.
According to Complete Sports, Kpakor said, a defeat
will see the Fennecs trail the Eagles by five points after just two rounds of
matches.
While the Eagles beat Zambia 2-1 in Ndola on matchday
1, Algeria were held to a 1-1 home draw against Cameroon.
Previewing the game, Kpakor who was in the Eagles team
that lost 5-1 and 1-0 to Algeria in the opening game and final of the 1990
Africa Cup of Nations in Algiers respectively, posited that the North Africans
are not as formidable in years past.
"I think the Algerian football is no longer a
threat and because of this I am confident the Super Eagles will win,"
Kpakor told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"Algerian football has been suffering for some
time now compared to what it used to be and if our players can give their best
today, we will win.
"They've not beaten us for a very long time (26
years) and during the qualifiers for 1994 World Cup, we beat them 4-1 at home
before drawing 1-1 with them away," the 1990 CAF Cup Winners Cup winner with
BCC Lions said.
Kpakor however warn that it is going to be a very
difficult encounter.
"I think it is not going to be an easy game
especially when you look at the first round matches where they beat Zambia away
and Cameroon drew against Algeria. This will surely motivate the Algerians to
try and get a positive result here in order to get their campaign back on
track."
