In recognition of creative writing as an invaluable
talent worthy of reward, JLF a Non governmental and not-for-profit organisation
has announced a writing competition tagged “JLF Writing Competition”. The
winner of this competition will be rewarded with =N= 150,000 while the first
and second runners-up will receive =N= 100,000 and =N= 50,000 respectively. The top three winners
would have the opportunity to be mentored by the judges.
JLF writing
competition has been organized in a bid to discover and promote literary
talents in Nigeria. According to the foundation, it is “instituted for the
purpose of identifying talents in literature with the intent to evaluate and
maintain the success of each competitor by selecting the best. The 2016 edition
is planned to be bigger and better!
Participants are required to pick
a story, chapter or verse from the Bible and write a synopsis into present day
or the future. Contestants would be
given two weeks to submit their synopses.
The judges would each pick the best six synopsesand the shortlisted contestants would be given two weeks to fully develop their synopsis in either of the categories below
Short film, Full length
feature film, Mini Series.
The contest is open to all ages, religion or social
background. All
synopses are to be uploaded on www.jlffoundation.org. The competition is opened from November 22nd and closes December 5th, 2016. Announcement of results and invitation to
receive prizes is slated for January
20th, 2017.
The panel of judges is made up of seasoned and
accomplished professionals in the creative industry. They are Anthony KAN
Onwordi, literary writer and recipient of NDDC/Ken Saro Wiwa Literature Prize;
renowned actor and multi-award winning filmmaker, Kunle
Afolayan; writer and award winning creative entrepreneur, Victoria Thomas; and
Wana Wana, multimedia journalist, writer and filmmaker.
