Iyaye congratulates Rivers Angels

Rivers State Commissioner of Sport, Honourable Boma Iyaye has congratulated Rivers Angels Sports Club of Port Harcourt for emerging champions of the 2016 Federation Cup.

The Angels overcame Bayelsa Queens 5-3 on penalties in the showpiece game of the competition on Sunday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos.

An elated Honourable Iyaye said the girls displayed the ‘traditional Rivers spirit’ as they won a tense game against the Yenagoa-based side.

“On behalf of the Rivers State Government and the good people of Rivers State, I want to congratulate Rivers Angels Sports Club for their victory in the final of the 2016 Federation Cup.

“They have by this feat, shown the traditional Rivers spirit and culture of winning and excellence and have also done us proud.

“We are all happy with this victory and we congratulate every member of the football club for this resounding success,” he said.

The victory by Rivers Angels marks yet another milestone for Sports in Rivers State in 2016.

Last month, Rivers United finished as runners up in the Nigeria Professional Football League in their inaugural season to qualify for the 2017 CAF Champions League.
