The 2016 Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup Amateur Series came to a
spectacular close with a showpiece Grand Final in Belek, Antalya, Turkey. The
Grand Final, which featured 98 players from 60 countries around the world was
hosted by the Titanic Deluxe Belek and contested over the attached Titanic Golf
Club.
Washington D.C’s Thomas Buckley was crowned Champion as the 2016
Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup Amateur Series. Buckley was the only player to
break par over the two round Grand Final, with windy conditions and fast greens
proving too much of a test for many of the international field. A first round of 38 stableford points was
good enough for a share of the overnight lead for the American player. 35
points in Round Two saw him post 73 points and claim victory over playing
partner Thomas Muldoon (Dublin, 72 points) by a single shot. Third place went to Denny Staroske from
Frankfurt who combined rounds of 36 and 35 points for a 71-point total.
Oslo’s Matthew Corney produced some fine golf throughout both
rounds to win the Best Gross prize by a resounding nine strokes with a two over
par 70 points. Pervaiz Ahmed (Karachi)
and Uzma Mir (Doha) won the men’s and ladies nearest to the pin competitions.
In addition to the two-round Grand Final, all guests experienced
eight nights of all-inclusive luxury accommodation in the five-star Titanic
Deluxe resort and also enjoyed watching all four days play of the Turkish
Airlines Open from the comfort of the luxury hospitality suite as VIP guests of
Turkish Airlines.
“We are proud to have concluded our fourth staging of the Turkish
Airlines World Golf Cup Amateur Series, which, this year, became the
widest-reaching tournament in world corporate golf. Congratulations to all of our winners and we
look forward to an even more successful series in 2017.” said Ms. Seda
Kalyoncu, Senior Vice President Corporate Communications of Turkish Airlines.
The Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup Amateur Series, which is also
backed by global sponsors the Financial Times and Conte of Florence – the
series’ Official Clothing and Fashion partner – offers key clients and industry
experts the opportunity to network with like-minded business executives at the
same time as enjoying and competing at some of the world’s most prestigious courses. It forms part of a wider commitment to golf
by Turkish Airlines, who, in addition to the Turkish Airlines Open, also
sponsor events on the Ladies European Tour and Challenge Tour.
