NAF commander urges officers on physical fitness

From Gideon Arinze, Enugu

The commander,39 Base Service Group, Air Commander Ebenezer Olayinka Alade has charged personnel of the Nigerian Air Force to maintain physical fitness in order to carry out their duties of safeguarding the country.

He made the call on Saturday in Enugu during the third quarter kilometre Road Map which held at the Mini Barracks, Abakpa.

He also noted that the base conducted an annual physical fitness text two weeks ago to ensure that all personnel were fit.

According to Alade, Road Map is a "national affair" because military men have the responsibility of protecting the territorial integrity of the country.

"All our activities and operations require us to carry out combats and in doing so, we must maintain a high level of physical fitness, " he said.

He added that the Nigerian Air Force has had several activities in line with the vision of the Chief of Air staff to reposition the Air Force.

"We have many operations ongoing and our personnel are in the theatre of operation fighting insurgents. So, they have to be physically fit as the terrain is though," he said.

He further noted that the NAF has had inter-command combats sports which were the first of its kind.

He tasked the personnel to remain dedicated to their pledge to protect the integrity of the nation as they have sworn to.
