Barcelona president Bartomeu to release Umtiti for Man Utd

Football

Manchester United are being encouraged in their pursuit of Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti.

El Mundo Deportivo says Umtiti has rejected Barca's latest attempts to raise his buyout clause from the current €60m. The key sticking point is that while Barca want to treble his clause to €180m, the player is upset they do not wish to do the same with his salary.

In contrast, United have already informed Umtiti's agent and brother that they're willing to meet his new contract demands and meet his current transfer clause.

For their part, Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu has informed Umtiti he must prove himself over the longer term to warrant such a payrise. If the Frenchman refuses to accept the club's demands, then Bartomeu is prepared to lose him this summer.
