Youths should not be agents of destruction- Ozumba

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba has advised the youths not to allow themselves to be used as agents of destruction

He gave the advice at an event organized by the Student Affairs Department, University of Nigeria, Enugu campus to commemorate this years International Youth Day.

According to Ozumba, the youth have been blamed severally for the incessant killings, maiming and other activities that are going on in the country today.

Speaking on the theme for this years celebration “Youths Building peace”Ozumba said it would not have come at a better time than now when the country is faced with series of crisis such as incessant attacks, occasioned by youth restiveness.

According to him, When the youths are excluded from political, economic and social spheres and processes, it can be a risk factor for violence and violent forms of conflict.

On efforts made by his administration he said that several initiative in the university today are geared towards empowering the youth in other to keep them busy, creative and innovative

“We shall continue to partner with the youth to ensure that peace and sustainable development is achieved in our nation as no amount of investment on the youth is wasted”

Also speaking at the occasion, the special adviser to the Enugu state governor on youths affairs, Mr. Emeka Asogwa charged the youths to channel their vibrancy to tackling the numerous challenges confronting the nation. 

“When the youths are excluded from political, economic and social spheres and processes, it can be a risk factor for violence forms of conflict” he said.

The International youth day 2017 is dedicated to celebrating young people’s contribution to conflict prevention and tans formation as well as inclusion, social justice and sustainable peace.
