Obaseki assures ladies of superb Super 4 In Benin City

Even as Edo darling team, Edo Queens did not make the cut for the Nigeria Women Super Four tourney in Benin City next month, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has said all necessary logistics have been deployed to make the a trail blazer in women’s football in Nigeria a success.


Benin City, the Edo state capital will be bubbling from 11-16 September as the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City hosts the first ever Super Four Women’s Championship in the country, it has never before happened in Nigeria and the novelty must be celebrated, declared Edo FA Chairman, Frank Ilaboya.


Obaseki has already set up a high level four man committee to make the tourney one that  not only Edo people, Nigeria and indeed Africa but the entire world will come to the realization that Edo State is actually the home of sports in Nigeria. The 2017 NWPL Super Four championship will be hosted in Benin City, Edo state among the quartet, Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens, Nasarawa Amazons and title holders, Rivers Angels.


Speaking on the tournament proper, Aisha Falode, the Chairman of the Women’s League in Nigeria, said she has been so excited with the support of the Edo State Governor and promised that in future if given any challenge by the Edo State  government, she will not relent but deliver. “ I must also thank the media for the tremendous support and say we may not be able to reward them adequately but professionalism has been my calling and I think, that is what they are sticking to”.
