Enyimba Football Club of
Aba held Lagos-based MFM FC to barren draw on Match Day 33 on Sunday therefore
suffered a setback at overtaking Plateau United.
However, Plateau United’s 1-1 draw against Kano Pillars
in Kano kept the hope of the Olukoya Boys alive.
Plateau United still kept
their lead with 59 points with 24 goal advantage, while MFM trail with 56.
The Fidelis
Illechukwu-tutored Boys fired blank against the Peoples Elephant in the
entertaining match in front of their cheering fans at the Soccer Temple, Agege,
Lagos, as their league title aspiration is now huge doubt.
MFM was unable to break
down the resolute Enyimba defence line with the visitor’s lone striker Mfom Udo
being a thorn in their flesh.
Both teams, however,
created few chances at goal during the feisty match.
MFM’s Media Officer,
Olawale Quadri, said after the match that the team would keep the hope of
clinching the league alive.
“We need to encourage
ourselves in times like this and we will still keep the hope of winning the
league alive. It is not over with us.
“We can still match the
league leaders, so, we are not afraid of anything even the result. We are still
within our target set at the beginning of the league season.
“We work, we hope, we pray
and leave the rest to God. We played against a tough opposition, so the result
id expected,’’ he said.
NAN reports that in spite
of the barren draw against Enyimba, MFM still occupies the second position with
56 points from 33 matches.
On the other hand the
table toppers Plateau United played a 1-1 draw away at the Sani Abacha Stadium,
Kano.
The Peace Boys from Jos
still maintain the lead with 59 points from 33 matches. There are five matches
still to be played.
